How long Do You Cook a Pot Roast in the Oven

How long Do You Cook a Pot Roast in the Oven?

Wrap in aluminum foil and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour per pound.

Cook a normal sized pot roast in a foil covered casserole dish for 3 hours at 325 degrees. Put the roast in the pan and salt/pepper the top. Add water until it's halfway up the roast then cover it tightly with the foil. It's usually pretty good to add an onion at this point. Add vegetables to the meat and you have a complete one pot meal For oven pot roast, add vegetables about one hour before the meat is done. Moist heat is best. The cuts of meat used for pot roast have less fat than steaks and long, slow cooking with liquid (also called braising) tenderizes the meat fibers. As long as the roast is covered completely and the steam cannot escape, it won't dry out.Generally, you'll get 2-3 servings out of a pound of boneless roast, and 2 servings from a bone-in roast.
